Skur 84 Sjursøya in Oslo harbour is a large utility building with offices, retail space, engineering halls and garages on three floors.
NAV Architects has designed this landmark that has set a benchmark for future utility buildings in the harbour area. To withstand the rough conditions close to the sea, concrete was an obvious choice for the main material as was the use of Graphic Concrete on the facade to really make it stand out.
The pattern drew inspiration from the building’s relation to the sea. The symbols are inspired by marine seismic signals, Morse code and navigation maps and the diagonal stripes symbolise the the sector light from lighthouses at night.
